OTHER QUESTIONS

Can I begin my degree in January?

[X] Close

New applicants are accepted for each of the fall, winter, and spring semesters. However, certain degree programs only accept students for the fall semester. A student may apply for general admission for the winter or spring semester and submit a separate faculty application for the fall semester.

International students and students applying from other Canadian provinces are encouraged to seek admission to either the fall or winter semester in order to ensure that the full services required by such students, such as orientation, are available.

Can I attend class at the St. John’s and Grenfell Campus in the same semester?

[X] Close

No. St. John’s is on the east coast of the province, while Corner Brook is on the west coast. It is about a ten hour drive between both cities. Therefore, you will not be able to complete classes at both campuses during the same semester. However, during a semester you can register for in-class courses and courses through distance education. As a student studying via distance you'll enjoy the flexibility and convenience of studying in your own space at your own pace. Please refer to Distance Education’s website (www.distance.mun.ca) for more information.

I need to register for more than the normal course load. How can I do this?

[X] Close

Most courses at MUN are three credit hours each, therefore the normal course load in any semester is fifteen credit hours (or five courses), and six credit hours (or 2 courses) during Intersession or Summer Session. To register for more than the normal course load you must obtain written permission from a Senior Faculty Advisor. To do this you will need to complete a Request for Course Load Waiver form which you can download at www.mun.ca/regoff/forms.php, under the Other Forms section select Course Load Waiver. Contact the Registrar’s Office for information on who can review your request for a course load waiver (709-737-4444) or e-mail reghelp@mun.ca.
